December 5, 1950

Mr. Walter Hinrichsen
President,
C.F. Peters Corporation
881 Seventh Ave.
New York City, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Hinrichsen:
You are mistaken if you think you can talk to me in a manner as if I would be a young humiliated composer. If anything shows how wrong you are, it is this manner in which you order whether I have to write you or not. Whatever I do to you is an honor for your[!] which you have to try to deserve.
When you broke up our negotiations about Structural and the choruses without any understandable reason this hurt me very much.
Your cannot treat a man of my achievements, some of which might be merits, in this manner.
This is why I wished that you might suffer morally from having acted in such a rough manner with a man of my age.
This you deserved.
I could accept your excuse. If you can convince me that you mean it cordially, not only formally.
Let us forget thereby questions of publications. I think this belongs to the past.
But one thing: you should learn to read carefully what I write, and answer only when your temperament has become quiet.
Mr. Gustave Beer, president of ALACA, 30 Fairview Avenue, New York 33, N.Y. sends me a copy of part of a letter from Universal-Edition. "...Wenn der Alien custodian...das Schaffen eines Komponisten...gerade dem Verlag übergibt, der nach Ansicht der ehemaligen geschädigten Aktionäre der Ariseur...der U-E ist."
Aus einem anderen Brief des Herrn Beer: "Die U-E ist mit Mr Hendrichsen(!) in einem schweren Prozess...begriffen, da Mr. Hendrichsen, wie mir geschrieben wurde, der Ariseur der U-E war..."
Yours Truly,
