January 12, 1950

Mr. Walter Hinrichsen
President
C.F. Peters
881 Seventh Avenue
New York City, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Hinrichsen:
Mr. Schoenberg has to ask you the following three questions.
1.) You have promised to publish the Violin Fantasy, in December, 1950. Up to now, you have even not sent proofs fro correction. When can he expect publication of this work?
2.) Up to now you have also not yet sent proofs for the new version of the Five Orchestra Pieces, and have not yet approached the production of new orchestral parts. When will you do this?
3.) In spite of all letters which testify your respective obligation to the publication of these works, you have not yet made out and signed a contract. When will you do this?
You remember that you are obliged to pay Mr. Schoenberg an honorarium, as advance on his royalties. Mr. Schoenberg did not object against your condition to pay it only after publication, though such a condition is quite unusual. He agreed with this, only as an act of courtesy, supposing that this publication would not be delayed as long as that.
Mr. Schoenberg expects an immediate answer and response to these problems.
Yours truly,

Richard Hoffmann
