Universal Edition
Karlsplatz 6
Vienna I
Ostmark, Germany

Gentlemen:
Kindly excuse my writing in English. I am too busy to write myself.
I have not yet received your answer about my royalties from records, nor any word as to whether you have paid (as I asked you previously) the monthly amount to my son Georg Schoenberg. Would you be kind enough to do this as soon as possible.
Today I first want to thank you for sending me the music I ordered. But I think a number of the packages must be delayed, and I hope they will soon arrive.
From the bills I saw, I observed to my astonishment that you charge me for my own works. It was an agreement with Mr. Her[t]zka that I get copies without charge.
As I am not selling them, it would be awkward for me to pay for them. The reason I need them is that I was pursuaded by requirements of students to make donations of my works to a number of public libraries. On account of the present depression here, the public libraries are not in a position to buy modern music. But they assure me that it would stimulate musicians to buy my works if some of them are available in libraries. As a proof of this, I send you the enclosed newspaper clipping.
By the way, you even charge me for me[!] opera "Von Heute Auf Morgen", which is my property, for which I paid not only the printing expenses but also those of the lawsuit I lost.
Please be so kind as to rectify this matter.
Very truly yours,
Arnold Schoenberg
