| Call number: | Magazin : Theurich, Jutta - BriefwechselJutta Theurich: "The estate of Busoni, preserved in the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek in Berlin, contains 24 letters from Arnold Schoenberg: these, together with 14 letters from Busoni to Schoenberg which are preserved in the Library of Congress (Washington, D.C., USA) and a single postcard from Busoni to Schoenberg, now in the Schoenberg Archive in Los Angeles, are reproduced in full. Topics in the correspondence include: 1) the efforts of both men on behalf of contemporary music; 2) a debate over Schoenberg's 'Drei Klavierstücke,' op. 11; 3) artistic and personal matters; 4) political issues at the time of World War I. The letters are especially valuable for the light they shed on Schoenberg's so-called atonal period (see letter no. 9 in particular). A commentary for the correspondence is included as an appendix." |
