Janacek's procedures represent an attempt to translate 'truth' into sound by means of a style that is based on 'speech melody' (Sprechmelodie). The relationship of Janacek's late chamber works to the 2 Viennese schools is examined. The works of Janacek and Schoenberg have little in common, despite similarities in their premises. However, almost all of Janacek's chamber music was influenced by Beethoven's late works. (Author/RILM) |
